Where should I start? I guess I should do a bullet point post again since it is the easiest way to catch up on so many topics.
- Ian Hey, Ian needs to go first more often! I am trying to spend more time with him because Connor does love to take the spotlight and monopolize my time. Ian is such as sweet boy that is entering the terrible twos. He can really whine. But he loves to laugh and to ask, "Again!" when playing. We are trying with mixed results to get him to sleep until 6:30 (for me, it's so I can work out at 5:00). If he wakes up between 6:00 and 6:30 I go downstairs with him. I love the one-on-one time and he loves to follow me around the house as I prepare things for the day. Ian was Nemo for Halloween and loved being dressed up. He didn't like walking that much but loved helping Mom hand out candy.
- Connor Melissa alluded to some things we are learning about Connor. Thanks to the additional insight, we are relating much better with him and he seems to have made a developmental leap forward this week. He is being less obstinate because of our improved communication. Halloween was a blast with him. He was Robin and I was Batman. Every day since then Connor has asked, "Connor be a Robin? Daddy be a Batman?" During Halloween, Connor helped hand out candy at church by running after other kids to put candy in their bucket. I call it, "aggressive reverse trick or treating". On Tuesday, while Melissa was being the queen of the polls, I watched the boys and Connor twice got out our costumes. We have started going to Starbucks for hot chocolate once a week and Connor loves to go in with me. He loves to watch them make a kids cup for him and he carries the cup out like a Starbucks addict.
- Melissa Hey poll manager queen! We continue to amaze ourselves that after 14 years of marriage we're still having a blast.
- Church Not much new there. I enjoy it but I am really looking forward to late spring next year when I am hopefully released. Luckily, the bishops in the wards around me have all been released within a few months of their five year mark.
- Family My parents are in Hawaii doing a school year at BYU-Hawaii. They are doing a massive research project about where BYU-H graduates wind up since 40% of BYU-H are international students. Can't wait to visit them in March; we miss them. Thanksgiving will be interesting with all of Melissa's family coming in for Cameron's wedding. I am looking forward to performing the wedding. I am glad Cameron is doing more to organize the wedding. As I stated before, Melissa and I arranged most of our wedding (except a luncheon and the reception in Oregon) and I kept thinking, "Why isn't Cameron/Melinda doing this?" as Melissa and her Mom rushed around. It has been interesting for me to watch Melissa's family "grow up". Being the youngest, I watched my siblings get married. With Melissa's family I have been able to see the other end of the spectrum. With four now married, the family dynamic is now reaching what I had grown up with.
- Work I still love it. They still love me. In August I received two nominations for the Bank's "Optum Us Excellence" award that is give out every two months. I didn't win, but to be nominated was great. Mike, the Chief Information Officer for the bank that hired me, decided to quit to focus on his own company. Our new CIO, Aaron, is great. I prefer having him as a boss. He is moving more responsibility to me such as overseeing the scheduling and planning for new development projects. I have been working on some really cool things such as developing a system to handle money transfers (ACH payments). ACH (automated clearing house) payments are what happens behind the scenes when you do a bill pay, direct deposit, or a scheduled debit from your account. Yeah, I'm loving the nitty-gritty of bank stuff.
- Personal I often think, "What's my thing?" Some people love fishing or hunting or river rafting or working on cars or computers or.... I really don't have a "thing". I am getting back into running and that has been quite nice. I honestly don't get into computers like people think I do. I'm just very good at understanding them. I think my "thing" is being with Melissa. We spent so many years with just the two of us, I really like any time we have together. I love our dates where we go to dinner and then wander around Barnes & Noble.
